AUDIO

A Direct Path to the Theatre of the Mind

Stan Freberg, a true radio genius, once made a commercial promoting the persuasive power of radio.

The promo had Freberg telling a radio advertising skeptic that only radio can stretch the imagination to conjure an image of draining Lake Michigan (cue a giant slurping sound) and filling it with hot chocolate and a whipped cream topping (cue the sound of loud pouring and the squirting sound of an aerosol whipped cream container). This was followed by the droning of a squadron of airplanes bombing the Lake Michigan chocolate concoction with a huge red maraschino cherry, (cue the bomb-like whistling sound followed by a “splat” sound as the imaginary cherry hits the imaginary whipped cream).

When the skeptic asks if television can stretch the imagination, Freberg slyly replies: “Up to 21 inches, yes.” (This was in the 1960s.)

This over-the-top spot emphasized the magic that happens when our imaginations convert sound into mental images.

At Wade Multimedia LLC, we believe the power of audio is often overlooked in our image-saturated culture. Your customers or your employees may not have the time to read your message or watch it on TV. But they can listen while driving, jogging or doing a thousand other things.

Think about talking books on CDs. Think about all the music people have downloaded as mp3 files. Think about the rapidly growing number of “podcasts.” Think of all the people you see walking around with headphones over or in their ears. Think about all the time you or your clients or employees spend alone in the car. Now think about how you can use that opportunity to communicate your message.

With audio you can easily and affordably:

• Communicate your message on CDs
• Distribute timely information as mp3 attachments to e-mail
• Post audio messages clients or employees can download from your Web site
• Create podcasts which can be downloaded by your target audience.
